Fantasy Value in the Arm of Jeremy Guthrie
By Stephen Weber
For those of you still plugging away with your fantasy baseball teams while everyone else is focused on their NFL drafts, here is a pitcher worthy to pick up if your looking to notch some more W’s in the wins column.
The Kansas City Royals have been hot ever since All Star Break going 24-11 and climbing their way into first place in the AL Central. The Royals are on the brink of making the playoffs for the first time since 1985 when they won the World Series against the St Louis Cardinals.
There have been many contributors to their recent success and one of those contributors comes from the mound every 5 starts. The 35 year old veteran, Jeremy Guthrie has been pitching extremely well during the Royals hot streak.
Over the last month he has pitched 34 and 2/3 innings, accumulated 4 wins, 23 strikeouts, with a 2.86 ERA and whip at 1.04. Not to shabby for guy owned by about 5% of all fantasy leagues out there.
Although his career numbers are a lot higher then where he currently stands, his confidence is high and he has the offense to help support him. Ride out the wave as long as you can and pick him before his numbers come back down to earth.
